AKA “Tux Needs Friends”
This art is all CC BY-SA licensed, which basically means you can use and alter the images here as long as you give credit, and as long as you put your alterations under the same license. Kind of like open-source software! So resize, recolor, redistribute without fear, just as long as you share it too. Credit doesn’t have to be big or obtrusive; a link back to this page (in the image itself or otherwise, doesn’t matter), or my name (Rebekah Yoder) in the alt text of the image or somewhere on the page is fine.
Right now all I have on here are a few Linux penguins and some backgrounds. I admit it seems a little silly to specify licensing for not very much art, but I made them with the intent that they should be shared–and I will probably have more stuff on here later.
Also, if you want to choose a license with which to mark your own work, check out Creative Commons’s license chooser. Read this before you choose a commercially restricted non-free license for your work.
Penguins
I thought that some of the Linux penguin images most often used looked a little creepy (not the original Tux by Larry Ewing, he’s adorable, but these guys and their variants freak me out a little), so I made some more cute ones. They are transparent .png images, and they’re exactly the size you see here.
I suggest they might be useful on a developer web page, as buttons. Like I said before, you can resize them, put backgrounds on them, whatever. I might make some computer backgrounds out of them and post them here for you all to use.
Nate the Linux Penguin
This one is named Nate after my friend.
Here, have a button and some garbledygook to go with him.

Alex the Alpha Release Fledgling
A cute recolored Nate to mark your alpha releases. I don’t know if this has been done before, but I couldn’t let the idea go. Named after the two friends I have who are named Alex.
Here’s his button.

Jim the Linux Penguin
Named after one of my teachers, who would get a kick out of this.
And here’s his button:

Work Hard, Hack Harder Background
Features Jim and comes in 5 colors. They’re 1280×800, but easily resized if you think they’re cute, or just drop me a comment somewhere on the site if you’ve got a request for a different size or color. Click each for the full size.
